I'm not too familiar with dieting with Pakistani food, but when I was living in Karachi with my friend, her father had a bad heart, and had to cut back on high calorie/cholesterol/fat foods. Basically what he did was...

Choose wholegrain breads. If you have a cook, or your family makes the food at home, you can just replace the white flour with multigrain or whole grain flour.

He avoided any cream based dishes, anything with nuts or coconut, anything with paneer, and ate more tandoor-cooked food. He was utterly saddened that he had to cut savayya and anything with malai out of his diet, and had no samosas or halwa.

He cut out any beef from his diet and stuck with lots of chicken and fish. Lots of veggies, lots of wholegrain breads, and lots of lean meats.

This website has some calorie amounts for Desi cuisine, though it seems to be focused on 'westernized' Indian food:

Here's another, but it has only calories:

Good luck.
References :
If you have a pre-existing medical condition such as high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure.... please consult your family physician or internist.

In order to lose weight on a Pak/Desi diet, you need to do the following:

Simple Rule: decrease intake, increase exercise

eat less, smaller portions
increase exercise (yoga, swimming, even walking...)
more fruit and veggies
nothing fried
protein in moderation is good (Chicken, lamb, eggs...)
no ghee or butter
decrease yogurt (you can eat low fat or fat free dahi)
no sweets

The hardest is you must decrease your carbohydrate intake:
so rice and chapatis (phulkas, rotis, parathas, naans...) must be decreased.

So basically you can eat curry, raita and daals. A small portion of either chawal or roti is fine.

Grilled foods are great: kebabs, tandoori....

Your calorie intake has lots of factors to consider: age, gender, pre-existing medical conditions...

You should lose weight the healthy way: dont skip meals, just eat smaller meals, drink lots of water and exercise, exercise, exercise!

It's probably better to use a general guideline, makes it easy to follow.

You'd probably want to cut back on the creamy dishes, such as kormas. I'd also cut out ghee (clarified butter). They've got a fair amount of fat and/or cholestorol. I'd also minimize consumption of fried foods such as samosas or other fritters.
References :
Losing weight while being on Pakistani/Indian/Desi cuisine?
I want to lose 15 pounds, but my diet is mostly Pakistani cuisine

Can you tell me a good website that has recepie for dieters on the desi cuisine?

Or tells me their calorie count so that I can monitor my intake?
Pakistani = what ppl in pakistan eat, mostly bread is used as a staple food with curries.

Indian = what in india eat, some part like pakistan while other eat rice as a staple food.

Desi = it is a common slang for pakistani and indians food when they are abroad
No medial condition. 28 years old just a bit chubby for my height :)
Thanks all, especially Desi Chef and drusillaslittleboot your suggestions are really helpful.

Do you gals runs a blog somewhere, cuz i would like to get more similar tips?
